Job Description

COVRA (Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (Centrale Organisatie Voor Radioactief Afval)) is a fully State-owned company and responsible for managing all of the radioactive waste produced in the Netherlands. This involves the careful processing of radioactive waste, its safe storage for a minimum of 100 years - ultimately followed by its storage deep in the ground: with the safety of humans, animals and the environment in mind. Quality, collaboration, research and development are all key words.

The Research, Development & Communication Department currently has a vacancy for a geotechnician specialising in the storage of radioactive waste.

• As the connecting link between engineers and researchers here at COVRA and external research institutes, one of your focus areas will involve coordinating research projects and preparing multinational solutions.
• You will research questions like the following: how can tunnels be created safely at a depth of 500 metres? How should waste packaging be stored deep under ground? How much will an underground facility cost?
• You will translate the results of scientific research into practical criteria for the processing and storage of radioactive waste.

• A degree in Chemical Technology or Mechanical Engineering (or a similar subject), which the successful candidate will have obtained from a university of applied sciences (HBO+) or a university.
• An affinity with technology, materials science and geology.
• Strong social and communication skills, methodical, precise and experienced in science/research.
• Well-developed abstraction skills, patience and excellent language skills.
