The county wide Housing Options Service provides genuine alternative options to homelessness through the provision of specialist advice. In this vital role you won't just deal with homelessness when it happens, you will proactively seek to prevent homelessness by empowering clients to work to improve their own housing conditions and develop the skills to live independently in the community.
About the role
As part of a team operating a walk-in and telephone housing advice service, you will be providing advice and managing caseloads, including clients whose homelessness you are seeking to prevent and clients whose circumstances you are investigating to determine our duties under the homelessness legislation.
From time to time you'll have to attend multi agency meetings to ensure the protection of children and vulnerable adults or to prevent/relieve homelessness.
You'll be customer-focused, empathetic and creative with a commitment to working in partnership with internal and external contacts to ensure a high quality and efficient service.
You will have knowledge of landlord and tenant law and homelessness law, policies and procedures, along with experience of managing a demanding caseload and carrying out home visits and investigations. We expect you to be highly literate and have excellent communication, organisational and IT skills and a natural aptitude for dealing with any situation.
Today's economic climate makes this a very challenging time for the service and you will be using your professional skills and experience to develop innovative solutions and options to help prevent homelessness.
