The Role

You will be working as part of the College Gardens Team, supporting the upkeep of the college's main site and various satellite properties across Oxford. Some locations are away from the main site, with transport provided by the college in a works vehicle.

Typical duties will include:

  • Sweeping paths and external areas
  • Leaf clearance using rakes and blowers
  • Weeding pathways, paved areas and borders
  • Collecting hedge and shrub cuttings
  • Moving compost, soil and other gardening materials
  • Emptying and replenishing large planters and specimen pots
  • Grass cutting using pedestrian lawn mowers
  • Removing weeds and unwanted turf from lawn areas
  • General grounds maintenance and outdoor upkeep
  • Occasional litter picking
  • Assisting with moving bicycles and light furniture when required

For candidates with more extensive gardening experience, additional duties may include:

  • Hedge trimming
  • Strimming
  • Seasonal planting
  • General horticultural maintenance

About You

  • Previous gardening, grounds maintenance, landscaping or horticultural experience is preferred
  • Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physically fit and comfortable undertaking manual work
  • Reliable, hardworking and able to work well within a team
  • A proactive and positive approach to work

Additional Information

  • £13.00 - £14.50 per hour, depending on experience
  • Ongoing temporary assignment
  • Initially 5 days per week, with the potential to reduce to 3-4 days per week in the future
  • 8:00am - 4:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
  • No parking available on site
  • Immediate start available

If you're looking for an opportunity to work within the grounds of one of Oxford's most respected colleges and have experience in gardening or grounds maintenance, we'd love to hear from you.
