Contract: Six-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent
Benefits: £6,000 car allowance or electric/hybrid company car, fuel card or mileage expenses, discretionary bonus and 8% pension contribution
Start Date: Ideally September 2026

Our client is a well-established UK property business with an extensive, multi-site portfolio spanning retail parks, high-street properties, industrial estates and other commercial premises.

The organisation is currently investing significantly in its internal Health, Safety and Fire function, bringing services in-house that have historically been delivered by external consultancies. With an established regional structure already in place, they are now seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Fire Specialist to provide additional support across the Midlands.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an evolving in-house function where you will have the scope to influence standards, improve processes and support the continued development of the organisation’s approach to Health, Safety and Fire compliance.

The RoleOperating across a diverse commercial property portfolio, you will undertake Health & Safety and Fire Risk Assessments while providing practical, commercially focused guidance to regional facilities and site management teams.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders across the East and West Midlands, with occasional travel to other regional offices or sites to provide wider team support and cover where required.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking Health & Safety and Fire Risk Assessments across a multi-site property portfolio.

- Reviewing external Fire Risk Assessments and Health & Safety assessments, identifying gaps and providing clear recommendations.

- Supporting Regional Facilities Managers with day-to-day technical advice.

- Advising on landlord responsibilities relating to Fire Safety and Health & Safety within commercial properties.

- Supporting the delivery of annual site risk assessment programmes.

- Developing pragmatic and commercially appropriate solutions to operational issues.

- Building strong working relationships with facilities teams, centre management and other internal stakeholders.

- Contributing to internal auditing, assurance and continuous improvement activity.

- Supporting the ongoing development and maturity of the internal Health, Safety and Fire function.

- Providing additional regional support and site cover when required.

Essential Requirements

- At least five years’ relevant Health & Safety experience.

- Practical experience undertaking Health & Safety and Fire Risk Assessments.

- A strong understanding of Fire Safety requirements and responsibilities.

- Experience reviewing risk assessments, identifying areas for improvement and recommending appropriate actions.

- The ability to provide pragmatic, commercially aware technical guidance.

- Strong stakeholder-management and relationship-building skills.

- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Midlands.

Desirable Requirements

- A recognised Fire Safety or Fire Risk Assessment qualification.

- Experience within commercial property, facilities management or a multi-site property portfolio.

- Experience supporting retail parks, high-street properties or industrial estates.

- Previous experience within an in-house Health, Safety and Fire function.

- Experience contributing to audits, assurance programmes or continuous improvement initiatives.

Working Arrangements

This is a flexible, home-based position involving regular travel across both the East and West Midlands, and sometimes may require travel across other national sites. Candidates may be based anywhere within the wider Midlands region, provided they can travel effectively across the portfolio.

The organisation is committed to building a more diverse and representative team and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

Applications are being reviewed immediately due to the urgent nature of the appointment.
