Kitchen Assistant

Are you an experienced Kitchen Assistant looking for flexible daytime work within schools?

We are currently recruiting Kitchen Assistants to join our agency team, supporting school kitchens across the HP postcode areas.

We work with a range of schools that regularly require reliable and experienced catering staff to support their existing kitchen teams. Whether you’re looking for regular temporary work or greater flexibility around your availability, agency work can offer a great way to gain experience across different school environments.

These are temporary agency positions, with opportunities for a variety of daytime school shifts. You’ll also receive holiday pay, alongside the flexibility that comes with agency work.

The Role

As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll work alongside chefs, catering managers and other kitchen staff to help deliver an efficient meal service for pupils and staff.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with basic food preparation
• Preparing ingredients ready for service
• Serving meals to pupils and staff
• Setting up and clearing down service areas
• Washing kitchen equipment, utensils and crockery
• Keeping work surfaces and kitchen areas clean and organised
• Following food hygiene and health and safety procedures
• Supporting the kitchen team during busy service periods
• Carrying out general cleaning and kitchen duties as required
• Helping maintain a safe, hygienic and welcoming kitchen environment

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for reliable, hardworking candidates who are comfortable working in busy kitchen environments and can confidently join different teams and get stuck in.

To be considered for these positions, you must have:

• A minimum of 6 months’ previous kitchen or catering experience
• An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS suitable for working within schools
• Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, General Assistant or in a similar catering role
• A good understanding of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• A reliable and punctual approach
• The ability to follow instructions and work efficiently
• A positive and professional attitude
• Availability for daytime school shifts

Previous experience within schools, education catering or contract catering would be advantageous, but candidates with relevant experience from other catering and kitchen environments are also encouraged to apply.

Important DBS Requirement

As these roles involve working within school environments, an appropriate Enhanced Child Workforce DBS is required.

Please ensure you have the relevant Child Workforce DBS and at least 6 months’ previous kitchen or catering experience before applying.
