Location: London & Home Counties
Basic Salary: £45,000–£55,000, depending on experience
Employment: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible between 6:00am and 6:00pm
Travel: Paid door to door
Call-Out: Approximately 1 week in every 5

The Opportunity

An established building services and facilities maintenance organisation is looking for an experienced Mobile Air Conditioning / HVAC Engineer to join its growing HVAC division.

The role offers a competitive basic salary, paid door-to-door travel, enhanced overtime rates and genuine opportunities for technical development and career progression.

You will work across a varied portfolio of commercial and public-sector properties, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive breakdowns, fault finding, repairs, remedial works, equipment replacements and small installations.

The portfolio ranges from smaller commercial AC systems to larger, complex HVAC installations across hospitality, leisure, retail, entertainment, education and other commercial environments.

This is a technically varied role, not simply routine maintenance. You will be expected to diagnose faults, identify root causes, take ownership of problems and recommend effective repair or replacement solutions. You will also identify additional works, provide technical information for quotations and liaise with manufacturers and suppliers.

As the division grows, there will be opportunities to develop specialist skills and progress into senior engineering or supervisory positions.

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out planned maintenance and reactive repairs on commercial air conditioning and HVAC systems.
- Diagnose refrigerant, electrical, mechanical and control-system faults.
- Undertake repairs, component replacements, remedial works and small installations.
- Work on split and multi-split systems, VRV/VRF equipment and larger multi-zone installations.
- Investigate pressure faults, compressor failures, electrical issues, sensor faults, communication errors, drainage problems and poor system performance.
- Identify additional remedial works and provide accurate technical information to support quotations.
- Produce service reports, photographs and electronic job sheets.
- Liaise with clients, manufacturers, suppliers and technical support teams.
- Update client portals and electronic job-management systems.
- Manage workloads across multiple sites, maintain appropriate van stock and follow health and safety procedures.
- Participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota.

Essential Requirements

- F-Gas Category 1 qualification.
- Strong commercial air conditioning service and maintenance experience.
- Proven fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
- Experience with larger commercial HVAC installations and VRV/VRF systems.
- Experience undertaking repairs, remedial works and small installations.
- Ability to work independently in a mobile engineering role.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Good communication skills, accurate reporting and a professional, customer-focused approach.

A recognised NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in air conditioning or refrigeration is desirable.

Experience with chillers, BMS, HVAC controls, commercial ventilation, refrigeration or electrical fault finding would be advantageous, as would manufacturer training and IPAF, PASMA, CSCS or ECS qualifications.

Salary and Benefits

- £45,000–£55,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
- 40-hour working week with paid door-to-door travel included within contracted hours.
- Significant overtime opportunities with enhanced rates.
- Company van and fuel card.
- Company phone, tablet, uniform and PPE.
- Company pension.
- 28 days' annual leave, including 8 Bank Holidays.
- One additional day's annual leave for every completed full year of service.
- Manufacturer training and ongoing technical development.
- Opportunities to develop skills in chillers, BMS and HVAC controls.
- Career progression into senior technical and supervisory roles.

Overtime Rates

- Time and a half: Monday to Friday, 5:01pm–11:59pm.
- Time and a half: Saturdays.
- Double time: Midnight–5:59am, Sundays and Bank Holidays.
- Standard hourly rate: Other applicable times.

Overtime worked following completion of contracted hours is paid in accordance with the applicable overtime structure.

Working Arrangements

- Mobile coverage across London and the Home Counties.
- Flexible start and finish times between 6:00am and 6:00pm, depending on client requirements.
- Out-of-hours call-out rota of approximately one week in five.
- Company van and fuel card provided. Personal use is permitted up to 10 miles per day; additional personal mileage is charged at 45p per mile, subject to company policy.
- Engineers provide their own standard hand tools; specialist equipment is provided where required.

This opportunity would suit an experienced commercial AC engineer who enjoys fault finding, working independently and tackling a varied range of HVAC installations.

If you have strong commercial air conditioning experience and are looking for a competitive package, paid travel and opportunities to progress, submit your CV to apply.
