Launch Your Career in Manufacturing Planning

Manpower Scotland is delighted to be recruiting for a Production Planner on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based near Portobello, Edinburgh.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering graduate looking to start a career in manufacturing, production planning or operations. It would also suit someone with previous production planning or scheduling experience who is ready for their next challenge.

You'll join a supportive and collaborative team, gaining exposure to all aspects of the manufacturing planning process while working closely with Production, Procurement, Quality and Engineering teams. If you enjoy problem-solving, analysing data and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, this could be the perfect role.

The Role

As a Production Planner, you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining short-term production schedules to ensure manufacturing operations run efficiently and customer requirements are met.

Working across multiple departments, you'll monitor production capacity, material availability and manufacturing priorities, ensuring production orders are released at the right time. You'll identify potential bottlenecks, help resolve scheduling challenges and contribute to continuous improvement across the planning function.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge of ERP systems, production scheduling and manufacturing operations while building a long-term career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain production schedules to meet customer demand.
  • Review and adjust production plans as priorities change.
  • Monitor production capacity and material availability.
  • Release production orders and track progress through completion.
  • Identify production constraints and potential delivery risks.
  • Work closely with Production, Procurement, Quality, Design and Project teams.
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP system data.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning efficiency.

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, analytical and eager to develop within manufacturing.

This role would suit:

  • A Mechanical Engineering graduate looking for their first permanent opportunity.
  • A Production Planner, Production Scheduler or Materials Planner looking to progress their career.

You'll also have:

  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills.
  • ERP/MRP experience is advantageous, with SAP knowledge beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Benefits

  • 22 days annual leave plus 10 bank holidays, including a Christmas shutdown.
  • 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day.
  • Opportunity to earn up to £1,000 in annual bonuses through attendance and operational improvement schemes.
  • Life assurance of 4x your annual salary.
  • Company pension with 5% employee and 7.5% employer contributions.
  • Access to a company share scheme.
  • Access to a wide range of employee benefits and discounts, including the Cycle to Work scheme.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme available 365 days a year.
  • Excellent career progression opportunities within the business.
  • Ongoing training and support, with further education encouraged and funded where appropriate.
