Job Description

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Specialist School, Birmingham
Are you a Psychology graduate looking for a role where you can put your knowledge into practice while making a genuine difference? A specialist secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex additional needs. This is an outstanding opportunity to develop practical experience in behaviour, communication, and child development before progressing into educational psychology, clinical psychology, or SEND teaching.

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** £85 - £100 per day
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** Specialist Secondary School – Birmingham
*** Supporting pupils with complex SEND through tailored learning and intervention

The Role
This is a varied role where you will become an integral part of the classroom team. You'll work with pupils individually and in small groups, helping them engage with learning, develop communication skills, and achieve personalised learning targets. Alongside supporting lessons, you'll help implement behaviour strategies, encourage positive social interactions, and deliver structured interventions designed to improve independence, emotional regulation, and academic progress. Every pupil follows an individual learning journey, meaning your ability to adapt your approach will be key.

The Candidate
This opportunity is ideal for a Psychology graduate who wants to gain meaningful experience working with young people with additional needs. You should be curious about how children learn, able to remain calm in challenging situations, and motivated by seeing pupils achieve goals that are significant to them. Whether your long-term ambition is educational psychology, clinical psychology, therapy, or teaching, this role will provide the experience and professional development needed to strengthen your future applications.

The School
This Birmingham specialist school provides an exceptional education for secondary-aged pupils with a wide range of complex learning needs. Staff work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team where teachers, therapists, and support staff work together to ensure every pupil receives the highest standard of care and education. The school benefits from outstanding specialist facilities, bespoke learning environments, and a strong culture of professional development, making it an excellent place for graduates to begin a career in special education.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
