Job Description

Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer | London | Hybrid Working | Building Services Consultancy

Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 + Bonus + Private Healthcare + Flexible Working

Are you an experienced Electrical Building Services Engineer looking for more than just another design role?

This is an opportunity to join a growing, design-led building services consultancy that combines technical engineering excellence with real-world delivery expertise. Established by highly respected Chartered Engineers with backgrounds spanning consultancy, client-side organisations, major occupiers and construction, the business has built a reputation for providing commercially focused engineering advice alongside exceptional technical design.

Unlike many consultancies, the leadership team bring experience from across the entire property lifecycle, giving engineers exposure not only to design, but also project delivery, technical advisory, asset performance, occupier requirements and commercial strategy.

As the business continues to grow, they are seeking a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to play a key role in leading projects, developing client relationships and helping shape the future direction of the company.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who enjoys taking ownership and wants exposure to every stage of project delivery.

You will work directly alongside senior leadership on a diverse range of projects across:

- Commercial offices
- Healthcare facilities
- Higher education
- Student accommodation
- Residential developments
- Mixed-use schemes
- Specialist technical environments

Projects range from new-build developments and major refurbishments through to technical due diligence, design management, occupier fit-outs, asset optimisation and decarbonisation programmes.

The consultancy's project portfolio includes work for major property owners, international brands, institutional investors and innovative occupiers, providing exposure to projects that would typically be associated with much larger organisations.

Why This Role Stands Out

Many larger consultancies offer strong technical exposure but can often limit engineers to a specific discipline, team or project stage.

Here, engineers are encouraged to become involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, including:

- Concept and detailed design
- Client engagement and stakeholder management
- Technical workshops
- Site inspections and surveys
- Design management
- Construction support
- Commercial discussions
- Technical reporting
- Project delivery strategy

With a lean team structure and direct access to decision-makers, you will have genuine influence over projects and gain responsibility much earlier than would typically be available in a larger practice.

The Role

As a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer, you will act as a lead engineer on a variety of projects whilst supporting the development of junior team members and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the delivery of electrical building services projects from concept through to completion.
- Produce and review technical designs, reports, specifications and contract documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with current regulations, standards and industry best practice.
- Act as the primary electrical point of contact for clients and design teams.
- Coordinate with mechanical, public health, structural and architectural disciplines.
- Undertake design calculations, technical assessments and engineering studies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Support project planning, resource management and commercial control.
- Monitor programme, scope and budget requirements throughout project delivery.
- Attend client meetings, site visits, technical workshops and design reviews.
- Contribute to business development activities and long-term client relationships.

What We're Looking For

Essential

- Degree qualified in Electrical Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 6 years' experience within a building services consultancy environment.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical building services design.
- Experience delivering projects through multiple design stages.
- Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
- Strong coordination, problem-solving and project delivery abilities.
- Experience producing specifications and technical reports.
- Working knowledge of relevant British Standards and industry regulations.
- Ability to manage workload, priorities and project deadlines effectively.

Desirable

- Experience within commercial office projects.
- Exposure to residential, mixed-use or healthcare developments.
- Client-side and/or contractor experience.
- Experience leading project teams.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience using electrical and lighting design software such as:

- Dialux
- Trimble
- ElectricalOM

- Membership of CIBSE, IET or similar professional body.
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards Chartership).

Career Development & Progression

This role would particularly suit an engineer who wants to accelerate their career within a growing consultancy environment.

You will benefit from:

- Direct mentorship from highly experienced Chartered Engineers.
- Exposure to clients, projects and responsibilities typically associated with larger consultancies.
- Involvement in both technical design and wider project delivery.
- Support towards professional development and Chartership.
- The opportunity to help shape processes, standards and company growth.
- Clear progression towards Associate-level responsibilities.

Rather than being one member of a large hierarchy, you will become a visible and influential part of a collaborative team where your contribution genuinely impacts the business.

Company Culture

The business has built a collaborative, ambitious and highly professional working environment where engineers are encouraged to take ownership of their projects and play an active role in client relationships and project delivery.

With a lean team structure and direct access to experienced senior leaders, employees benefit from a level of responsibility and exposure that is often difficult to achieve within larger consultancies.

The culture promotes:

- Professional trust and autonomy
- Collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Technical excellence
- Open communication
- Continuous learning and development
- Entrepreneurial thinking
- Long-term career progression

Engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge conventional approaches and help influence the future direction of the business as it continues its growth journey.

Package & Benefits

- £60,000 - £75,000 salary depending on experience
- Annual discretionary bonus
- Private healthcare
- Pension contribution
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Hybrid working arrangement
- Central London office location
- Chartership support
- Ongoing professional development
- Clear long-term progression opportunities

Location & Working Pattern: Central London | Hybrid Working

The role offers a combination of office, home and project-based working. Employees are typically expected to attend the London office around three days per week, alongside client meetings and site visits as required.

Interested?

This opportunity is ideal for a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer seeking a role that offers genuine responsibility, direct access to company leadership, varied project exposure and the chance to play a meaningful part in the growth of a highly regarded engineering consultancy.

If you're looking for greater project ownership, closer client engagement and an environment where your contribution has a real impact, we'd be keen to hear from you.
