| Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Birmingham City Centre Salary: Very Competitive Job Type: Permanent | Full Time Start Date: Immediate / ASAP Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services Consultancy An opportunity has become available for a Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing building services consultancy based in Birmingham. This role will involve leading the delivery of mechanical building services design across a wide range of projects within the commercial, healthcare, residential, industrial, retail, care and mixed-use sectors. The successful Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in the design and coordination of HVAC and mechanical systems, supporting low-carbon and sustainable building solutions across all RIBA stages. Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities - Lead mechanical building services design across multiple project sectors - Deliver projects through all RIBA design stages from concept to construction - Design HVAC systems including ventilation, heating, cooling and associated plant systems - Produce and review specifications, schedules, technical reports and design calculations - Coordinate designs within multidisciplinary BIM and CAD environments - Support the integration of low-carbon and renewable technologies into building designs - Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and design teams - Attend project meetings and provide technical input throughout project delivery - Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, British Standards and CIBSE guidance - Manage workload and project deliverables across multiple live schemes - Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians - Contribute towards technical excellence and sustainable design delivery Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements - Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or similar - Proven experience within a building services consultancy environment - Strong technical knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems - Experience delivering mechanical design across a variety of building sectors - Competent with industry-standard design and calculation software - Experience working within BIM/Revit/CAD environments - Experience with IES VE or other thermal modelling software advantageous - Strong communication and client-facing skills - Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively - Understanding of sustainable and low-energy building design principles - Full UK driving licence Desirable Experience - Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership - CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC) or LCEA accreditation - Healthcare project experience including HTM compliance knowledge - Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers - Knowledge of renewable and low-carbon energy systems Benefits - Competitive salary - Hybrid and flexible working arrangements - Contributory pension scheme - Generous holiday allowance - Christmas office closure not deducted from annual leave - Professional development and study support - Early finish Fridays - Death in service benefit - Employee assistance programme - Paid volunteering days - Clear progression pathways - Cycle to work scheme - Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme If you're interested, please contact Conner Richards at RGB Recruitment – crichards@rgbrec.co.uk  Keywords Mechanical Design Engineer, Principal Mechanical Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Building Services, MEP, HVAC Design, Mechanical Building Services, Sustainable Design, Low Carbon Design, Building Services Consultancy, CIBSE, IMechE, BIM, Revit, IES VE, Thermal Modelling, Ventilation Design, LTHW, Chilled Water, Healthcare Projects, Commercial Projects, Residential Projects, Energy Efficient Design, Decarbonisation, Net Zero, Mechanical Engineering Consultancy  |
