Job Description

Senior / Principal Structural Engineer
Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: Up to £65,000 (dependent on experience)

We are working with a well-established, independent structural engineering consultancy based in Greater Manchester that is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Structural Engineer as part of its continued growth. The business has built a strong reputation for delivering practical, high-quality structural solutions and maintains long-standing relationships with developers, contractors, and architects across the UK.

The Role
This is a key senior appointment offering both technical leadership and client-facing responsibility. You will take the lead on the delivery of a broad range of building structures projects, overseeing design from concept through to construction, while also supporting and mentoring junior engineers within the team. The role would suit an experienced engineer looking to step into a principal-level position or an established principal seeking a stable, design-led consultancy environment.

Projects
The consultancy works across a varied portfolio of building structures, including:

- Residential developments (low-rise to multi-storey apartments)
- Commercial and industrial buildings
- Education, healthcare, and public-sector schemes
- Retail, leisure, and mixed-use developments
- Refurbishment, remediation, and structural alterations to existing buildings

Projects typically involve a mix of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures, often requiring close collaboration with architects and contractors to develop efficient and buildable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage structural design projects from early concept through to completion.
- Take technical responsibility for designs, calculations, and reports in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to graduate and intermediate engineers.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, attending meetings and contributing to project strategy.
- Oversee project delivery, ensuring quality, programme, and commercial targets are met.
- Contribute to the continued development of technical standards and best practice within the business.

About You

- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or working towards chartership with a recognised professional body.
- Strong experience delivering UK building structures projects within a consultancy environment.
- Confident leading projects and managing client relationships.
- Able to support, mentor, and develop junior members of the team.
- Commercially aware with a practical, solutions-focused approach to design.

What’s on Offer

- Salary up to £65,000, depending on experience.
- Senior-level role with real influence over project delivery and team development.
- Opportunity to work on a diverse and technically interesting range of projects.
- Supportive, close-knit consultancy environment with long-term career progression.
- Flexible working arrangements and a strong focus on work–life balance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior or Principal Structural Engineer seeking a long-term role within a respected consultancy, offering technical challenge, leadership responsibility, and a clear route for continued career development.
