Site Engineer - Highways Type: Full time Salary: From £50,000 per annum plus package (neg.) Location: Northwest - Manchester/Stockport/Bolton/Liverpool/Preston Start Date: ASAP A well-established regional contractor, with over 75 years' delivery across the Northwest, is seeking a permanent Site Engineer to support the successful delivery of key highway infrastructure schemes. Known for technical excellence and long-term client relationships, the business offers a stable platform for engineers who value precision, professionalism, and continuous improvement. The role will involve overseeing engineering control from project inception through to completion, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with design intent, contractual requirements, and quality standards. Key Responsibilities - Lead setting-out and dimensional control across highways, groundworks, drainage, and associated structures - Interpret drawings, specifications, and survey data to ensure technical accuracy from initial site establishment onward - Proactively resolve technical and constructability challenges on site - Drive quality assurance processes, maintaining accurate records and compliance documentation - Support continuous improvement initiatives within site engineering operations - Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to Technical Apprentices - Ensure works align with contractual obligations, company procedures, and industry standards
Requirements - Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline - Proven experience as a Site Engineer with a main contractor, ideally on highways or infrastructure schemes - Strong proficiency with modern surveying and setting-out equipment - SSSTS, CSCS card & First Aid - Confident communicator with the ability to collaborate across site teams and stakeholders - Analytical, solutions-focused mindset with strong organisational skills - High attention to detail and a methodical approach to engineering control This is a permanent opportunity within a respected regional contractor offering technical ownership, professional credibility, and long-term career stability on meaningful infrastructure projects.
