Job Description

Epsom | £60,000 - £80,000 + Bonus + Benefits | Hybrid Working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Team Lead / Principal Civil Engineer to join a rapidly growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Epsom.

Following significant investment and continued expansion, the Civil Engineering team is entering an exciting period of growth, with a strong pipeline of work across residential, commercial, industrial, energy and infrastructure developments. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Civils, helping shape the future of the team while delivering technically challenging projects for a wide range of private and public sector clients.

This is more than a traditional Principal Engineer position. The business is looking for someone who enjoys leading people, developing engineers and influencing the direction of a growing team, whilst remaining involved in the technical delivery of high-quality highways and drainage schemes.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Head of Civils, you'll lead a team of Civil Engineers and Technicians, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of highways, drainage and development infrastructure projects from feasibility through to construction.

You'll act as both a technical leader and mentor, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standard while supporting the continued growth of the team and strengthening client relationships.

Responsibilities

- Lead and mentor a team of Civil Engineers and Technicians.
- Manage the delivery of multiple highways and drainage projects from concept through to construction.
- Produce and review technical designs, calculations, reports and specifications.
- Provide technical guidance and design reviews across the team.
- Liaise directly with clients, local authorities, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Manage project programmes, budgets and resource allocation.
- Support fee proposals, project planning and business development.
- Assist with recruitment, team development and succession planning.
- Ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget and the highest technical standards.

Requirements

- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (ICE) or working towards Chartership.
- Strong consultancy background delivering development infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience in highways and drainage design.
- Proficient in Civil 3D and drainage software such as InfoDrainage or MicroDrainage.
- Good working knowledge of Section 38, Section 278, Section 104 and SuDS.
- Previous experience mentoring engineers and leading project teams.
- Confident client-facing with strong communication and commercial awareness.

What's on Offer

- £60,000 - £80,000 basic salary depending on experience.
- Annual bonus.
- Hybrid working.
- Modern offices based in Epsom.
- Clear progression into senior leadership.
- Opportunity to build and shape your own team.
- Exposure to a broad and varied project portfolio across residential, commercial, industrial, energy and infrastructure developments.
- Supportive, collaborative environment with genuine autonomy and influence over project delivery.

If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical delivery with team leadership and play a key part in the growth of a highly ambitious Civil Engineering business, I'd be keen to tell you more.
