Job Description


Job Title: Traffic Marshal / Banksman

Location: Rotherham
Project: New Build School Development
Project Duration: 2–3 Years
Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Overview

We are currently seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Traffic Marshal / Banksman to join a long-term new build school project in Rotherham. This role is critical to maintaining safe movement of vehicles, plant, and pedestrians on site, particularly given the sensitive nature of an education-based development.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring site safety, supporting plant operations, and maintaining strict compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Direct and control the movement of plant, vehicles, and delivery traffic on site

Act as a banksman for plant operations, including excavators and dumpers

Ensure safe segregation of pedestrians and vehicle movements

Communicate clearly with machine operators using approved hand signals and radios

Assist with deliveries and unloading of materials

Monitor site access and egress points

Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe practices

Support general site operations when required

Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised working environment

Comply fully with all site health & safety, environmental, and safeguarding requirements

Essential Requirements

Valid CSCS card (mandatory)

Traffic Marshal / Banksman qualification (essential)

Proven experience working as a Traffic Marshal / Banksman on construction sites

Strong understanding of site safety, traffic management plans, and safe systems of work

Clear communication skills and a proactive approach to safety

Safeguarding & Compliance

Due to the nature of the project, an Enhanced DBS check will be carried out prior to commencement

Candidates must be willing to comply with all safeguarding requirements associated with working on a school development

Pay & Working Hours

£17.00 – £20.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

Monday to Friday – Full-Time Hours

Overtime available on weekends, subject to site requirements
