Job Description

I am happy to be supporting a major international organisation in the search for an experienced UK Employment Tax Consultant to join their Payroll & Accounting function on an initial six-month contract.

This is a hands-on advisory role for a UK employment tax specialist who enjoys solving complex problems, working across multiple stakeholders, and creating sustainable processes rather than simply providing technical opinions.

You will act as the key subject matter expert for UK employment tax matters, supporting the payroll team, managing HMRC interactions, coordinating external tax advisers, and helping the organisation build long-term capability and ownership within its payroll function.

The Opportunity:

You will be brought in to provide both technical expertise and practical support across a range of UK employment tax matters, while helping establish clear processes, governance and knowledge transfer that will remain in place after the assignment concludes.

Working closely with Payroll, Finance, HR, HMRC and external tax providers, you will play a central role in investigating issues, providing guidance and driving matters through to resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSA)

  • Review and optimise the existing PSA process
  • Advise on the correct tax treatment of benefits and expenses
  • Coordinate PSA activities with internal stakeholders and external advisers
  • Resolve complex or unusual PSA-related matters
  • Establish a robust and sustainable annual process

Employment Tax & NIC Advisory

  • Provide specialist guidance on UK National Insurance implications for international assignments and secondments
  • Assess complex cross-border employment tax scenarios
  • Support payroll teams on the correct treatment of non-standard cases
  • Coordinate with external providers where international social security considerations apply

HMRC Investigations & Reconciliations

  • Investigate unidentified payments and liabilities on HMRC accounts
  • Liaise directly with HMRC to resolve discrepancies
  • Work alongside Payroll and Finance teams to reconcile historical issues
  • Identify root causes and implement long-term solutions

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key point of contact with HMRC
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisers
  • Translate technical tax advice into practical operational actions
  • Drive ownership and accountability across stakeholders

Knowledge Transfer & Process Improvement

  • Develop and document employment tax procedures and SOPs
  • Create a clear employment tax framework and governance model
  • Identify annual activities, responsibilities and escalation routes
  • Deliver practical training and knowledge transfer to payroll colleagues
  • Complete a structured handover at the end of the assignment

About You:

I am keen to hear from experienced employment tax professionals who can combine technical expertise with a practical, delivery-focused approach.

You'll likely have experience in one or more of the following:

  • UK Employment Tax
  • PAYE and Benefits Taxation
  • PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSA)
  • National Insurance and International Assignments
  • Global Mobility Tax
  • HMRC Investigations and Dispute Resolution
  • Payroll Tax Advisory
  • Employment Tax Consulting

You'll also be comfortable:

  • Working independently
  • Managing multiple stakeholders
  • Challenging and interpreting external advice where required
  • Driving issues through to completion
  • Translating technical tax matters into clear, actionable guidance

Contract Details

  • Initial 6-month contract
  • £500 per day
  • UK based
  • Predominantly remote
  • Approximately monthly travel to Poland required
  • Immediate or short-notice availability preferred

This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact role where you'll become the trusted UK Employment Tax expert for a large international organisation, helping resolve current challenges while building the framework, processes and knowledge that will support the business long after the assignment ends.

All applications will be dealt with in strict confidence.

Amida is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all demographics.
