Temporary Grounds Person

£13.46 per hour


Do you have a passion for keeping playing fields and sports pitches in top condition? Are you customer-focused and take pride in your work? If so, then we want to hear from you!

We are recruiting for a temporary Grounds Person to join our client for 6 months. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining playing fields and pitches across the town, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-maintained for the community.

What will you be doing?

  • Prepare and renovate playing surfaces for various sports, including bowls, cricket, football, rugby, and more.
  • Plan and carry out seasonal work, such as spring clean-up and end-of-season renovations.
  • Operate and maintain various tools and equipment, including ride-on mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and chippers.
  • Cut grass, strim edges, hoe and weed gardens, and control pests and diseases (if qualified).
  • Plant trees, shrubs, and bulbs, and maintain hedges and shrubbery.
  • Clear leaves, litter, and debris, and clean hard surfaces.
  • Remove fly-posting, dog mess, and dead animals.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and feedback, and resolve complaints efficiently.
  • Work safely, wearing the appropriate uniform and PPE.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in discussions.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to streamline the service.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork


What are we looking for?

  • Experience working in grounds maintenance or a related field.
  • A strong understanding of grounds keeping principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in operating various grounds maintenance equipment (training provided for some equipment).
  • A valid driving licence (transit sized vehicle or equivalent).
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build rapport with the public.
  • A commitment to health and safety.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
